Check Restaurant and Bar Reviews on Social Media

I can be quite forensic in terms of my desire to avoid misfortune in the pursuit of pleasure. I do desk research and look at the reviews, both good and bad and magnify diners photographs of half munched meals. Take a look at Tripadvisor and YouTube.

Check Restaurant Menus and Customer Density to Get A First Impression

Sometimes I stumble on places as I walk through the streets of the City, I check out the restaurant or bar’s outside menus, peer inside and Google while standing on the pavement. Can I see what is on people’s plates? Is the venue busy? Busy tends to be good. Queues outside the door is even better!

When Eating Out in London Don’t Be Afraid to Go Inside a Restaurant at the Start of Service

And if I am still uncertain that a particular restaurant or bar is going to meet my expectations and it is the start of service, as bold as brass, I will walk in and announce that I am not planning to dine today and I am just checking out what they serve. I’m full of bonhomie and sometimes this just does the trick, the head waiter will explain the menu and their star performers and possibly show me round and I leave feeling that I have the full scoop.

And if you’d love to visit a popular London restaurant …avoid 1pm and 7-8pm

I like Cafe in the Crypt under St Martin-in-the-Fields in Trafalgar Square. It is a stunning setting with home cooked comfort food. The soup and crumble combination is my favourite. The dinner service starts at 5pm, so I aim, when eating out in London, to arrive as soon as the food appears – fresher, tastier and I can get a table.
